Kitchen Remodeling Pictures, Ideas, and Articles
Investing in an updated kitchen can pay dividends today and years to come
Kitchen Remodeling is one of the best ways to invest in your home.
Not only do you increase the value of your home by upgrading the
quality of cabinets, countertops, fixtures, flooring, etc., you
can also be saving yourself a bunch of money.
When you replace your old appliances with new energy efficient kitchen appliances, or
when you replace your drafty kitchen windows with new energy
efficient windows, you are putting money back in your pocket by
reducing your utility bills.
How Much Does a Kitchen Remodel Cost?
So you have decided that you want to remodel your kitchen. The
big question is: How much does a kitchen remodel cost?
Although it is difficult to give an exact price without knowing
exactly what you would like to have done and having
seen your project in person, there are a number of useful
tools available that will help you as you begin to outline a budget
for your project. For example, Remodeling Magazine(r) has
published a Cost vs. Value report for many years. This report
helps homeowners know how much a project will cost and what amount
they can expect to recoup at the end of the project.

There are two kinds of kitchen remodels that Remodeling Magazine(r)
has assigned a value to in their past report. The two kinds are:
Minor Kitchen Remodel
Remodeling Magazine(r) defines a MINOR kitchen remodel as:
"In a functional but dated 200-square-foot kitchen with 30 linear feet
of cabinetry and countertops, leave cabinet boxes in place but replace
fronts with new raised-panel wood doors and drawers, including new
hardware. Replace wall oven and cooktop with new energy-efficient
models. Replace laminate countertops; install mid-priced sink and
faucet. Repaint trim, add wall covering, and remove and replace
resilient flooring."
Prices for this kind of project vary across the country. For
example, the project is more expensive on the East and West Coasts
than it is in the middle of the country.
Nationwide, the cost for a minor kitchen
remodel is $21,246, and you can expect to recoup $16,881 upon sale of
the home, or 79.5% of the cost.
In Las Vegas, the costs are lower than the national
averages but the returns are higher.
For a minor kitchen remodel in Las Vegas, the
cost is $20,684, and you can expect to recoup $16,867 upon sale of the
home, or 81.5% of the cost.
Major Kitchen Remodel
So how much would it cost if you wanted to have more
extensive remodeling done? Remodeling Magazine(r) defines a MAJOR
kitchen remodel as:
Update an outmoded 200-square-foot kitchen with a functional layout of
30 linear feet of semi-custom wood cabinets, including a 3-by-5-foot
island; laminate countertops; and standard double-tub stainless-steel
sink with standard single-lever faucet. Include energy-efficient wall
oven, cooktop, ventilation system, built-in microwave, dishwasher,
garbage disposal, and custom lighting. Add new resilient flooring.
Finish with painted walls, trim, and ceiling.
The national average for a MAJOR kitchen
remodel is $56,611, with a cost recoup of $43,030, or 76% of the cost.
Like the minor kitchen remodel, the costs are lower in
Las Vegas but the returns are still better than the national average.
For a MAJOR kitchen remodel in Las Vegas,
the cost is $54,900, and you can expect to recoup $42,826 upon sale of
the home, or 78% of the cost.
