Some general timelines for a large scale addition is 3-6 weeks for the design,
planning, and blueprint and engineering. It is another 6-14 weeks to completion,
depending on the size and complexity of the addition.
For a bathroom remodel, they can be completed in as little as a day to up to 3 weeks.
Establishing a reasonable timeline prior to the project
beginning and then working to complete the project within that
timeline is a challenge for each legitimate contractor.
Why? Because construction is so unpredictable. Things
like the weather, unforeseen damage (like damaged wood inside a
wall or damaged plywood on a roof), delays from suppliers (like
cabinets, countertops, etc.)
However, these unpredictable events do not make a timeline
impossible. In fact, the #1 complaint against contractors is
poor communication, primarily with regards to the timeline.
Below is a sample timeline we use for our projects. We also
establish a regular meeting time with our customers to go over the
schedule and discuss items we need to work around, such as not
working certain days because you have guests in town, not working
a certain morning if you work late, etc. Likewise, we also
inform you about our schedule for the week. In most large
projects, there are inspections required by the city or county.
On days these inspections occur, we must wait for the passing of
the inspection before we can continue.
The bottom line is, proper communication about the timeline, and
constant updates regarding the timeline are critical to customer
satisfaction. Our number one goal is to achieve 100%
customer satisfaction. One critical way to do this is
through a timeline.
